What is Cyber-Stalking?

Cyber-Stalking is typically the using of computer technology to criminally stalk a person or persons.

Many experts are making the mistake of stating that the crime called "Cyber-Stalking" is a new crime, when infact, apart from the technology, it is not. The crime of "stalking" has been around for a long time, prior to the use of any technology that assists stalkers in their endeavors. The term "Cyber-Stalking" is merely a term to describe how the crime is conducted (through the use of computers). Whether the stalker uses the phone, traditional mail, or computers, the crime is still the same.

Please note, not all what appears to be stalking is the crime of stalking. Also, if you suspect you are being stalked, please save all information you receive. Such information would be very helpful for police to help you resolve any issues you have with a would-be stalker.

What is Identity Theft?

Identity Theft, also known as the crime of "fraud", is the assuming of a person's identity for illegitimate and often illegal use and purpose. By obtaining a person's social security number, credit card number, bank account information, a would be thief could apply for loans, create, modify or cancel credit or bank accounts, apply for credit cards, apply for checking accounts, withdraw and deposit any amount of money.. in short, the thief could exploit and ruin the personal credit rating and financial standing of the person whose identity the thief has assumed.
